Best Laptop for Computer Science Students 2021.
As a computer science student, you need a companion that will accompany you in your computer engineering major course.
Having a fast and reliable laptop as a computer science student is the best thing that can ever happen to you, as you will need to work all day and night in front of your laptop programming your head out, so if you are here to know the best laptop for computer science student this post is for you. Most of the software used by computer engineers need a standard laptop to run them because some laptops can’t run many applications at the same time, which is the real deal when working on a project.
imagine working on a big project on a laptop that is less than $400, the slowness and dumbness of the system are going to ransack and frustrate you to discouragement.
As a programmer or a computer science student you will need to know all programming language like c++,c#, Java, python, etc and be perfect with them by consistently practicing with a good machine(laptop), cause no matter how good you are and how much your idea worth, you need a good machine to get it to reality, it is just like a gaming laptop that needs a good processor machines to perform excellently.
so if you are here to know the reality, then you are in the right place, feel free to read on and digest.
WHAT TO CONSIDER IN LAPTOP AS A COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENT.
As I already said earlier, having a good machine is the best thing you can do for yourself as a CS student. There are qualities to look at in a laptop for you to consider it the better or the best, although you may not need a working beast laptop that is required in machine learning but yet you still need something cool and powerful to get your work done smoothly.
CPU: if you are an Intel lover I would suggest you get a laptop that has at least Intel i5s and for betterment Intel i7s and if you prefer to use AMD processors then you can go for Ryzen 7 and 5. Because as a CS student you need a laptop with a good and fast processor to compile a bunch of code and handle a big project, you might even get stuck by a lot of assignments and tests that need a fast machine for fast accomplishment.
HARD-DRIVE: Firstly I would advise you to get a laptop with SSD(solid-state drive), although it is not a must as you know SSD is much faster than HDD and the latter is old and slow and you might get annoyed when going through a lot of files with HDD.
possibly, along the long run you might get introduced to large programs like Android studio and co and by then trust me you will need SSD. And if you are getting SSD I will like you to get nothing less than 256GB so you can feel how comfortable to have something load up fast.
RAM:8GB should be your minimum concern as you will need to run many applications at the same time although you can get one with a lot of RAM if you can afford it but I guess the 8GB is enough for CS student to do their work and run their codes successfully.
DISPLAY: you will surely need a laptop with a good display as you will keep your eye on your laptop all day even all night especially after your first year because you will find yourself coding, debugging, and sorting things out.
As recommended by some geeks full HD resolution or higher (1,440×900 and above), also a matte display is encouraged as it helps reduce eye strain and tiredness so opt for it if possible.
GRAPHICS: if you are not a game freak I don’t see any reason why you will need more than integrated graphics as most modern Intel and AMD hardware comes with integrated graphics that is more than enough for your programming work but if you love playing a game or you love passing time with them sometimes then you can go for dedicated graphics.
Dedicated graphics can be of help when you decided to go into machine learning and other big stuff, anything less than that, integrated graphics is going to do the job.
BATTERY: To be honest, you need a laptop that has a long battery life as you are going to work with it all day and night and it is not every time you will get to charge it while you use it, which is not even recommended.
I will recommend you get a laptop with a minimum of 5 hours of battery life so that you can be on the safer side.
KEYBOARD: Talking about keyboard, as a CS student you need a good responsive keyboard that has at least a 1.1mm key travel with a multi-stage backlight that will allow you to work in a dark room or at night.
Also choosing a keyboard with softness and good actuation for fast typing as that will be your job as a computer engineer.

No one will doubt that this device is one of the best laptops out there, having a CPU of 8th Gen Intel corei7-8750H, 16GB of RAM,512GB SSD of storage with delicious GPU GEFORCE GTX 1050TI.

STORAGE:256GB SSD NVMe.
BATTERY: 3 Hours 45 Minutes.
GPU: NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1060.
DISPLAY:15.6 Inch Full HD,ipsw/144Hz refresh rate.
Acer Predator Helios 300 has been praised by many gammers and its users especially because of its dedicated graphics card of 6GB which is so strong for gaming and other programs that require a strong graphics card.
But to be sincere I don’t think this laptop should be the primary choice for computer science students, as it has a very short battery life of 3 hours 45 minutes, although it has a very cooling system that doesn’t overheat no matter how much you use it and on top of its keyboard is a turbo button that speeds its fan at a maximum rate that helps the system stay cool and fine.
Moreover, it has a non-sensitive keyboard which is very quick in response, typing on it is very comfortable, it also has a good touchpad but not so good because it lacks smoothness and it looks rigid.
The device comes with a Full HD resolution of 1920×1080,15.6 inches of its display size which is very good for watching video on any social media.
it has a fast processor that makes it not to have any problem in running any program simultaneously thanks to its Intel Core i7 8750H CPU,16GB DDR4 RAM, and dedicated graphics card.

if you are fine with all the cons of this ACER Predator then you can go for it, but I won’t advise you to because of its battery and the rigid touchpad.

CPU: 2.2GHz 8th Gen Intel corei3 8130U
GPU: Integrated graphics 620.
DISPLAY: 15.6 Inches Full HD.
Here again, is another ACER product but with a good battery that lasts over 8 hours on heavy usage, although I won’t say it has a good CPU, 2.2GHz 8th Gen Intel corei3 8130U is not so good but it is manageable for people on a low budget.
Also, this device comes in HDD format of hard-drive which I already discouraged at the beginning of this article, although getting SSD is not necessary for CS students but it is good as I said before.
The laptop that was covered with junky plastic design came with a display of 15.6 inches,1920×1080 resolution and it weigh about 5lbs, oh! that is heavy, carrying it all around might be a difficult task.
The display is non-touchscreen and the device runs on window 10, I won’t lie, it is not good for outdoor usage as it causes a little bit of problem when used outside, but if you are an indoor guy then this should be no problem for you.
- Good battery
- Non-touchscreen display
11. HP PAVILION 2019.
CPU: Intel Core i4-8300H
GPU: GEFORCE GTX 1050TI.
Hp pavilion is hype in the market as the best gaming laptop by some users due to its performance when it used for gaming, I think no one will deny that laptops with good processors usually are good for gaming and programming.
how pavilion which comes with CPU:Intel Core i4-8300H ,RAM:8GB DDR4,GPU: GEFORCE GTX 1050TI,STORAGE:1TB HDD accompanied by 15.6 inches of display,1366×767 resolution.it has a strong battery that lasts for about 8 hours on heavy usage.
Having three USB port, two of which are USB port A 3.1 and the other is USB port C, which is for data entry only(can not be used for charging), 3.5mm headset jack, SD card reader slot, HDMI 1.4 slot are not also left out, it has no thunderbolt 3 USB port which makes it impossible to use external GPU.
I will say the laptop is not good for outdoor usage as it came with a brightness of 260nits which is very low for outdoor guys. also, weighing 5.3lbs is a little bit heavy for everyday carriage.
it has a good keyboard with good spacing accompanied by a different stage of backlight making it easy to work in a dark room or place, the touchpad is very responsive and sharp.
This device which runs on a window 10 display is a Touchscreen with low resolution and it can be used as a tablet if you feel like it.
- Featured HDD instead of SSD
- its heavy
12. ASUS ZENBOOK 13 UX331UN.
GPU: NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX MX150, 2GB GDDR5 Graphics memory
DISPLAY: 13.3 Inches IPS Display.
Asus did an amazing job on this device, although this device lacks a good graphics card it has a good CPU and RAM that going to give you a good job.
it has a 13.3 inches display Touchscreen which supports a pen and also it has a fingerprint sensor at the bottom of the keyboard.
it has a good keyboard of 1.3mm key travel, but I will say the touchpad is better than the keyboard, the keyboard has 4 stage backlight that allows you to work in the dark.
on its sides is an HDMI port, USB 3.0, and USB-C 3.1, there is no thunderbolt 3 on it, also you can’t charge your phone or anything with a USB-C port.
it has the worst webcam ever, I hope Asus will fix that in their new update.
- Good keyboard
- worst webcam
